Introduction to Javascript

Course Description and Objectives

JavaScript is a high level scripting language that complements the Java programming language and enables Web publishers to add simple event-driven functionality to their pages with much less effort and training than is required using Java. With JavaScript, you can create pages that perform calculations, play sounds, manipulate images, and much more.

Topics covered in this class include:

  • what is JavaScript and how does it compare to Java
  • what specific kinds of event-driven functionality can be created with JavaScript
  • how does JavaScript work
  • which browsers support Javascript
  • what are some of the basic JavaScript commands
  • how do I get started developing in JavaScript
  • what on-line resources and reference materials are available

After completing this class you should have an understanding of what JavaScript is and how you can get started developing Web pages that incorporate JavaScript interactivity. This class provides you the necessary background to begin learning JavaScript, however, substantial study and practice will be required after you have attended the class to become proficient.

Who Should Attend?

This class is intended for Web publishers who already have at least intermediate level Web skills and wish to create advanced interactive pages.

Prerequisites

Experience with a Web browser and an intermediate level of experience in creating and serving Web pages. This class is not for beginning Web publishers. Some background in developing with programming languages or other scripting languages is extremely useful to get the full benefit of this class.
